Two Hour Pre-Trip Course Connection Session - join in on an educational and Q&A session the Thursday Evening before our trip (August 1st) via Zoom! A general Seabirds and Tufted Puffin presentation, as well as an introduction to Northwest Straits Foundation and their important work will be provided to get everyone ready for what we might see on Saturday, August 3rd!
Guided Birding & Marine Mammal Naturalizing with a Focus on Tufted Puffins at Smith Island - roughly 3-4 hours aboard a private charter equipped with experienced Captain and knowledgeable Sea to Sky Guiding Naturalist. While we’re charting a course to one of the last breeding islands for Tufted Puffins in the Salish Sea, we’ll also be keeping a species tally during the entirety of the excursion. Our vessel leaves from Skyline Marina in Anacortes, Washington!
Optics - Binoculars: Nikon PROSTAFF P3 8x42 (4 pair available for use).
Educational Materials While Onboard: Birds of the Puget Sound Region; Tufted Puffin educational materials and advocacy information (along with organizations helping); other marine mammal catalogs and materials for educational purposes.
eBird Checklist(s) - compiled and shared with participants within 24-48 hours of the end of the trip.
Trip Report - within two weeks of the end of the excursion, a detailed trip report with photos will be shared for participants to enjoy. Details will also be found on our blog!
Included in the price:
Beverages/snacks - participants are responsible for their own food and drink on this excursion; these items are not available for purchase aboard the vessel.
*Tips - captains and crew work hard to ensure you have the best day on the water that we can. While never expected, if you feel so inclined, tips are always appreciated!
