Guided Birding & Marine Mammal Naturalizing - 3-4 hours aboard a private charter equipped with experienced Captain and 2 knowledgeable naturalists (one from Sea to Sky Guiding). The vessel is a Zodiac-style RHIB (rigid-hull inflatable boat) that offers a wonderful adventure! The wind, weather, and most recent wildlife reports will help chart our course, and we’ll keep a species tally during the entirety of the excursion. Boat leaves from Skyline Marina in Anacortes, Washington!
Gear - cruiser suits, hats, and gloves for warmth and to stay dry, if needed.
Optics - Binoculars: Nikon PROSTAFF P3 8x42 (4 pair available for use).
Educational Materials While Onboard: Birds of the Puget Sound Region; 2019 Bigg’s killer whale guide; *2023 Southern Resident killer whale guide; birds of the Salish Sea and other catalogs!
eBird Checklist(s) - compiled and shared with participants within 24-48 hours of the end of the trip.
Trip Report - within two weeks of the end of the excursion, a detailed trip report with photos will be shared for participants to enjoy. Details will also be found on our blog!
Trivia & Cookies at Sugar Mamas, Anacortes - join us at Sugar Mamas in downtown Anacortes after our excursion to chat about what we saw, partake in some fun Salish Sea trivia, and enjoy one of their gigantic, scrumptious, homemade cookies! *Sugar Mama’s also serves food and drinks that can be purchased separately!
Included in the price:
Beverages/snacks - participants are responsible for their own food and drink on this excursion; these items are not available for purchase aboard the vessel.
*Tips - captains and crew work hard to ensure you have the best day on the water that we can. While never expected, if you feel so inclined, tips are always appreciated!
Entrees and/or drinks at Sugar Mamas - participants can order any food or beverage items during Trivia should they desire! A gigantic, scrumptious, homemade cookie of your choice is on us!

*I am working aboard the Snow Goose in SE Alaska for about 3 weeks this summer (June 14th-July 7th); it is likely I will not have access to internet at this time. Emails will be responded to in the order they are received as soon as it’s possible! Thank you for your patience during this time!
*2023 Southern Resident orca catalog is on hand strictly for educational values and comparisons to Bigg’s killer whales; we will not be striving to actively watch these critically endangered orcas if around, and if a chance encounter were to happen, by law we are not permitted to be closer than 1,000 yards to them, must report our findings, and then safely transit out of their immediate area.
